DGT #38: The Alpha Male Dragon (Reign of Fire)

Reign of Fire is a 2002 fantasy film starring Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale. It was also based on a video game, so naturally I was super psyched to see this movie in theaters when it came out. An action movie about dragons set in the future based on a video game?? Yes, please. What could go wrong??? Then, I watched it. And I cried. About how bad it was. Seriously, this has to be the worst dragon movie of all time. I blame Matthew McConaughey. I mean, look how stupid his character looks in the movie. He should stick to playing stoner characters like Wooderson.        Here's the...

DGT #37: Dragons Lair

Dragon's Lair is a laserdisc video game published by Cinematronics in 1983. Wow, guess I am really dating myself with this reference. Come on, you guys totally remember this game! Back in the day, this used to be all the rage at the arcade. It was so freaking hard, because all you could do was push the joystick in the direction of the arrow that flashes on the screen or you would be dead. It kinda sucked that you couldn't actually move the character, but I liked the game because it reminded me of a movie. The visuals were awesome. In the game, the protagonist Dirk the Daring... is a knight attempting to rescue Prince Daphne... from the evil dragon Singe... who has...

Drankgon Tale #36: King Ghidorah (Godzilla)

It just makes sense that on a day when America inaugurates its new President, we would profile a Dragon King. King Ghidorah (from old Godzilla movies) is a golden dragon monster with two legs, three heads on long necks, giant bat-like wings, and two tails. This Godzilla nemesis was capable of generating hurricane-force winds with its wings and magnetic force beams from its mouths. What a boss. The King's origin story has varied from being an extraterrestrial planet killing dragon, to a genetically engineered monster from the future, to a guardian of ancient Japan. He also had a pretty dope toy line as a robot Dr. Octopus-type dragon with wings. I'm curious though, why the hell doesn't have have actual arms? No wonder he always lost...

DGT#35: Zmey Gorynych (Lipetsk)

With all the "fun" things Russian these days, we figured it was time to let the dragon out of the bag here and reveal Russian's best kept secret: The Zmey Gorynych statue. As if Russia wasn't scary enough already... In Slavic Mythology, Zmey Gorynych was a monsterous dragon. The creature is sometimes thought of as a Hydra (not yet profiled) because of its three heads. He was known best for the epic battle that he started with Dobrynya Nikitich. After three days of fighting, Dobrynya Nikitich was ready to give up but he recieved a message from heaven and began to fight fiercer than ever. After three days and three hours, the mighty dragon was slain by the noble warrior. It is...
