DGT #20: Saphira (Eragon)

This week's Drankgon Tale is one of my favorite dragons of all time. Saphira is the main dragon in the Eragon book series written by Christopher Paolini. There are four total books in the series, which I highly recommend to everyone. The author wrote the first book when he was 17 years old! That's pretty incredible. I am just disappointed that they totally screwed up the movie Eragon so badly that they could not even finish the series. I mean seriously, how bad does one have to make a movie adaptation of such a popular book series that no more movies come out in the series! I just wish that someone would come along and finish making the books into movies, because books 2-4 are awesome. There are more dragons. And elves. And orcs. And a super bad ass villain who is almost as fearsome as Lord Zarkon from Voltron. And magic. I mean come on, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED????

Saphira is a blue dragon, with shimmering gem-like scales. Saphira has the ability to breath fire, but she also has access to vast reserves of magical energy Eragon can draw on in times of crisis. She also has the ability to speak to Eragon through his mind, which is pretty much how I envision all dragons speaking to their riders. Like all dragons, she is extremely intelligent and spews pearls of wisdom to Eragon all the time.  Here are some prime examples:

"Find peace in who and what you are."
"It is our destiny to attempt the impossible, to accomplish great deeds regardless of fear."
— Saphira

I think we can all agree that we would be better people with a dragon speaking to us through our minds. I can envision it now... "Primo, do you really need that fourth slice of pizza? We have orcs to battle tomorrow and you're gonna eat that!? It's bad enough you had Super Duper for lunch. You should be eating coconuts for every meal." Not to mention the whole being able to fly on a dragon's back while it breathes fire and helps you to perform magic all while learning more about yourself. If that doesn't get you excited, I just don't know what to say.

Personally, I think that Steph Curry would be a very capable dragon riders. Lebron James, not so much... Bring on Game 7 and this week's episode of Game of Thrones!
