DGT #12: Viserion (Games of Thrones)

Team Drankgon had quite the weekend. We saw the Jungle Book (scary), held an 18-team Spikeball tournament near the Golden Gate Bridge, donned our mythical creature onesies for a Polk Street pub crawl/karaoke, and then saw M83 at the Fox. A big thanks to everyone who came out on Saturday for the Spikeball tournament, as well as Tipsy Elves for donating such great prizes. It was an epic day, to say the least.

Now back to the dragons. This is a big week, because on Sunday, Game of Thrones returns with season 6.  And thankfully, the TV show has outrun the book, so no one really knows what is going to happen. That means no more spoilers, no more having to listen to those friends that mock you for not know what is going to happen in the show since they read every single book twice, and no more waiting to see what happened to Jon Snow. Even better, the dragons are all full grown, out on the prowl, and ready to destroy Westeros. We...can't...wait. To get everyone hyped, we will be profiling all of the GOT dragons each day this week, as well as 1-2 other characters, to get ready for this season. Hopefully we get to see some serious dragon devastation this season!

First up is Viserion.  He is one of the the dragons born in the Dothraki Sea, along with Drogon and Rhaegal. Commanded by Daenerys Targaryen, he is named for her brother, Viserys Targaryen. The majority of Viserion's scales are cream, but his horns, wing bones and spinal crest are gold colored. His teeth are shining black daggers. His eyes are two pools of molten gold and his flame is pale gold shot through with red and orange.

I actually feel bad for Viserion and Rhaegal, because they both get the short end of the stick compared to Drogon. Drogon is the biggest, gets the most screen time, and doesn't get chained up by Daenerys at the end of Season 4 (also Drogon's fault). Apparently Viserion does a few things in the book that differentiates him from his brothers, but they don't really give him his own role on the show. He and Rhaegal are pretty much always shown together doing similar things. As he is the gold dragon, I hope that he gets some more screen time in the upcoming season. Any by that, of course I mean that I hope he eats someone. It would definitely be awesome if one of the dragons ate a main character, like Lord Varys or Sir Davos. Come on HBO, make it happen!

“ The cream and gold I call Viserion. Viserys was cruel and weak and frightened, yet he was my brother still. His dragon will do what he could not.”
